With a Sparkly Silver Butterfly in the center.

DREAM CATCHER

When I lay me down my weary head,
I know not what it means,
That oft times, deep in slumberland,
Strange thoughts invade our dreams.

Why does this happen? Who can know?
Perchance an explanation,
Lies elsewhere, waiting, for a sign,
To calm our consternation?

True Native American Indians,
Wise, proud, showed no such doubt,
Their Medicine Men had centuries,
Of customs to share out.

They would hang up their Dream Catchers,
Over their simple beds,
Full knowing that good dreams would survive,
The feathered web above their heads.

For good dreams always know the way,
Through the cotton mesh and rings,
Sliding down the soft feathers on to sleepers heads,
Dreams then only of pleasant things.

But bad dreams know not the secret,
The way to defy the warnings,
Get entangled in mesh, with no escape,
Hanging there, fearing the mornings.

For as dawn awoke, to birdsong bright,
And the sunlight peeped through and spread,
The good dreams brought joy into sleeper’s lives,
As for bad dreams, they burned out, – dead!
